MYCELIUM INSERT - HK BIOTECH
About
Mycelium is grown on agricultural waste materials to create a biodegradable and sustainable alternative to traditional packaging materials. Once the mycelium has fully colonized the substrate, it is dried to stop further growth and sterilized to prevent any potential contamination.
Why it’s interesting/sustainable:
- biodegradable, compostable, and can be used for a wide range of applications
- lightweight, can reduce transportation costs and energy consumption during shipping
- customizable to fit specific needs (water resistance or durability, even antimicrobial) or varying sizes/shapes
- lower cost compared to traditional packaging materials
