From Vibrant Powders to Laser technology for Board packaging and Ecovadis' new platinum winner
Givaudan is releasing a collection of powders from botanical extract for make-up and skincare applications, while DS Smith just acquired new technology to innovate in customisation while ensuring sustainability, and Fedrigoni receives the platinum Ecovadis top 1%.
Givaudan Active Beauty launches the [N.A.S.]™ Vibrant Collection of vegan botanical extracts for hybrid make-up. Five powders with potent skin benefits, fusing make-up and skincare.
This series of 100% natural origin active extracts represents a significant breakthrough in both performance and skin benefits, ensuring colour stability and longevity. Crafted through green fractionation, the [N.A.S.]™ Vibrant Collection comprises five potent natural extracts. Highly concentrated in bioactive compounds, these powder extracts offer strong antioxidant properties, and each delivers additional skin benefits:
- [N.A.S.]™ Curcuma 7409
Soothing rhizome extract derived from Curcuma longa L. - [N.A.S.]™ Gardenia 2168
Anti-ageing fruit extract derived from Gardenia florida L. - [N.A.S.]™ Spirulina 2183
Brightening algae extract derived from Spirulina platensis G. - [N.A.S.]™ Radish 1805

Antiglycation radish extract derived from the root of Raphanus sativus L.
Givaudan’s specific process ensures the stability of the composition of the extracts and bioactive compounds, preserving their organoleptic properties and appearance. The oil-dispersible powders deliver their biological efficacy in makeup without compromising colour performance or intensity stability.
DS Smith is using laser technology for Ultra-customization
DS Smith has acquired a new Highcon 'Beam 3' machine - a world first in corrugated board - at the Neuville aux Bois production site. This machine performs laser cutting instead of mechanical die-cutting.
This revolutionary process ensures precision for highly complex cuts with unprecedented fine details. Additionally, thanks to 100% digitalized technology, DS Smith can offer unit-by-unit customization, thus reducing carbon impact - compared to traditional cutting methods - and accelerating the development process.
Short Lead Times and Small Series
This new technology is particularly suited for small series and/or short deadlines:
- Absence of traditional cutting tools thus limiting the waiting times for designing, building, and shipping tools. Also, machine setup times are significantly reduced.
- Possible amalgamations (multiple cutting shapes on the same sheet),
Allowing multiple references in small quantities and customisation or decoration solutions.
The range of achievable products extends from gift boxes to cases, including boxes, sleeves, cushioning, and advent calendars. The machine is adapted to solid board up to light corrugated board. "DS Smith is happy to start a new partnership with Highcon. Innovation is in DS Smith's DNA. The implementation of the Beam 3 laser cutting machine at one of the French sites is exciting. Through this project, DS Smith strengthens its positioning based on 'value creation' for its customers, innovation, and sustainability", expressed Armand Chaigne, General Manager - Consumer France and Spain, DS Smith Packaging France.
