TechnicoFlor presents FlorIndex 2.0, the evolution of its eco-score for assessing the environmental and societal impact of fragrance formulas
TechnicoFlor unveils FlorIndex® 2.0, the evolution of its pioneering tool for assessing the environmental and social impact of fragrance formulas.
It is the only tool validated by an independent third-party organisation (AFNOR Certification), FlorIndex® enables brands to make credible and verifiable claims concerning the presence of eco-socio-designed fragrances in their products.
After issuing more than 1,500 certificates since its launch, Maxime Gransart, TechnicoFlor's Deputy Managing Director, is today announcing the roll-out of FlorIndex® 2.0, a radically enhanced new version. "In light of brands that are increasingly committed to sustainability, and consumers who expect information and transparency with a view to making informed choices, it was essential that FlorIndex® be adapted to meet these new requirements," he explains.
This development is taking place against a backdrop of environmental and social urgency, of which we are all well aware. The intensification of climate change, the accelerated erosion of biodiversity, the increasing scarcity of natural resources and the need to promote a circular economy are forcing all industrial players to rethink their business models.
"Designed from the outset as a continuous improvement tool, FlorIndex is based on a scientific and collaborative approach to eco-socio-design. Given the vital need to mobilise the widest possible ecosystem to enable significant impact on environmental and social issues, we have worked closely with our suppliers and collected over 70,000 data points. This approach has enabled us to quantify the
46 indicators that now make up FlorIndex 2.0, in a precise and thorough manner," explains Christophe Mangalte, TechnicoFlor's CSR & Quality Director.

Major changes for an even more demanding assessment
FlorIndex® 2.0 offers enhanced relevance through the integration of eight new indicators that address major issues. For example, climate is now assessed by measuring the carbon footprint of formulas, and biodiversity is subject to increased vigilance, particularly regarding the risks of deforestation and the preservation of endangered species. Chronic toxicity is also weighted more heavily, with particular attention paid to endocrine disruptors. The tool is also becoming more robust, thanks to ongoing enhancements to its databases, which draw on increasingly reliable and scientifically recognised sources. This methodological requirement strengthens the robustness of the results and improves their comparability over time.
Finally, FlorIndex® 2.0 marks a major step forward in transparency and education by enabling communication to customers of the score for each of the five stages in the fragrance development cycle.
