TechnicoFlor makes fragrance carbon footprint more meaningful

Being sustainable is great, but if you don't measure progress, you may as well remain silent. TechnicoFlor, the French fragrance House, had developed a specific tool for measuring the carbon footprint of fragrance formulas.

Called Global ScenTrack®, this methodology enables the calculation of the carbon footprint of fragrance formulas, while also assessing the reliability of this result, which is crucial to the validity of the information.

To make this measurement possible, TechnicoFlor collected carbon data on raw materials from its suppliers and assessed the reliability of their calculation methods. It was no easy task since some do not have this data, or the calculation methodology used does not meet TechnicoFlor's standards. In partnership with Carbone 4, a recognised leader in the field of corporate decarbonisation, TechnicoFlor has designed its own carbon score calculation tool: ScenTrack.

The Global ScenTrack® methodology offers insights into the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with the recommendations of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Paris Agreement.

“CSR is nothing new at TechnicoFlor: it has been part of our development strategy
for over 10 years. We have chosen not to suffer from it, but rather to see it as a lever for innovation,” explains Maxime Gransart, Deputy Managing Director of
Technicoflor.

The Global ScenTrack® methodology and its ScenTrack® tool now make it possible to calculate the carbon footprint of the complete fragrance formula, as well as its reliability. This is a first step towards decarbonisation, an ambition now shared by all players in the fragrance industry.
