Shellworks releases the world's first plastic-free dropper
Shellworks is the materials startup working on bio-based materials with their main material, Vivomer, a PHA made by fermentation. This pipette dropper joins their growing suite of plastic-free solutions, including tubes, bottles, and caps, all designed to a plastic-free standard of packaging.
Over the last five years, Shellworks has developed Vivomer™ to offer a viable alternative to plastic in beauty packaging. "Made from waste biomass, for example from plants, Vivomer is created through fermentation and formulation to behave like plastic, but without the harmful legacy", explains Shellworks.
Building on their original rigid grades, Shellworks has now pushed Vivomer into flexible formats and unlocked the world’s first mono-material pipette dropper. This single-origin design mimics the performance of glass, ceramic, plastic, and rubber in one seamless piece, yet breaks down together at end-of-life.

The London-based start-up has tested this product against 12-week compatibility across a range of formulations, proving that it is now ready for your serums, oils, and wellness products.
Vivomer is versatile, functional and offers a premium feel. It can be rigid or flexible, and it can be matte or glossy. However, unlike conventional plastics, it's always home-compostable, microplastic-free, and free from toxic chemicals such as BPA and PFAS.
Shellworks is offering mostly stock packaging (can also do custom developments), answering the need of most startup beauty brands who have already picked up their packaging with colour and decoration customisation. Clients' brands include Sam McNight, Wildsmith, Eclo Beauty, “It’s about all of us" - formerly known as Haeckels, or Bioli for instance.

Shellworks' name is always present at the bottom of the packaging, demonstrating the move to transparency in the Beauty industry, where the supplier's story and sourcing will be as important as the brand's story in the future.
