Latest refillable packaging for premium make-up

Eva Lagarde

As seen in the latest beauty show, we have identified a few innovation that brings the refill and the consumer experience up a notch. With monomaterial simplicity and intuitive gestures, these new packs cater to a more conscious and innovative beauty.

A new refill for foundation

Berlin Packaging Beauty has developed a new refillable packaging for foundation, where the dip tube remains inside the refill cartridge, and the pump stays securely inside the cap, allowing for a clean and safe refill. As presented at the Luxepack edition special in July, this offers a new refill solution for foundation housed in a glass bottle.

Called the Future.Fill™, this innovation features a connector that enhances the refill experience. It is an innovative connector system designed to make the transition between refill and primary container truly seamless. Future.Fill™ enables refill pouches to connect with rigid packs through an intuitive, secure mechanism compatible with multiple packaging types. This system allows brands to deliver a comprehensive, user-friendly refill experience while reducing material consumption and optimising logistics and storage—a significant step towards achieving packaging circularity, merging design, sustainability, and functionality.

Toujours a refillable lipstick concept with an innovative gesture

Toujours replaces the traditional twist mechanism with a patented, innovative slider. This new gesture is both distinctive and intuitive: users press the button to slide the bullet up for application, and press again to slide it back down. An anti-push back system keeps the bullet in place during application. The reusable main casing is made of lightweight aluminium, ensuring long-lasting use. The refill casing is made of recyclable plastic (PP*) and is PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled Resin) capable, while the secondary overcap can be made of biodegradable material.

A glass lipstick in a slimmer design

Following the Murano line designed for lip gloss and mascara, Bormioli Luigi expands its glass makeup collection with Swing, an all-glass lipstick, refillable, recyclable and fully customizable.

Launched in 2023, Bormioli Luigi's makeup collection showcases the benefits of premium and recyclable materials. The new version of Swing, called ABSOLUTE SLIM, was showcased at the recent Luxepack Monaco and features a narrower cross-section than the previous version, giving it a more modern look. Its walls are thin, and its glass content, significantly reduced, allows for up to 15% PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled content).

For functional reasons, the removable central ring is designed in plastic. However, it can be made from different recyclable materials while maintaining the same mechanical resistance and closing click. By removing this ring, it is easy to separate it from the other components for recycling.

The Swing is customisable on the interior or exterior with a range of finishes, including lacquers, metallic effects, sputtering, screen printing, metallization, varnishes, glazes, and more. The central ring is also customised in colour and decoration to give the product and its refill a complete identity.
