Good for the body, good for the mind: Expanscience taps into nutricosmetics with TULSINITY® Bio

In the past couple of years, a new “buzzword” has entered the beauty and wellness segment: we’re talking about “nutricosmetics”.

Blending the care for skin and body with a special attention to mental well-being – rooted in the knowledge that skin and mind are intrinsically connected and greatly influence each other in many ways – nutricosmetics products are usually ingested and provide holistic benefits that include stress and anxiety relief, anti-inflammatory properties, skin elasticity and suppleness, increased collagen production and many more.

What if we told you, though, that this is more than just a passing trend or hype?

Nutricosmetics: a globally growing segment

Whilst nutricosmetics products are becoming increasingly more popular and coveted, the truth is that the concept behind them is far from brand new. The first products of this kind emerged in both Europe and the United States over ten years ago, coming all the way from Japan.

It was precisely Japan’s strong tradition of collagen-based beverages that led industry experts and analysts to explore the potential skin-mind benefits of these solutions.

On a global scale, the nutricosmetics market was valued at a jaw-dropping USD 8.3 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow from just shy of USD 9 billion in 2025 to over USD 16.3 billion by the end of 2033 (the CAGR for the forecast period is 7.8%).

In Europe, the sector was estimated at USD 1.5 in 2023 and is projected to experience a growth of up to USD 3.4 billion by 2035, with a CAGR of over 6.6% throughout the forecast period.

Nutricosmetics is one of the most promising current and future avenues for beauty and wellness brands around the world.

TULSINITY® Bio, a new active in nutricosmetics serving a holistic approach

The active ingredient department at French pharmaceutical company Laboratoires Expanscience has recently launched TULSINITY® Bio – a made-in-France, innovative, eco-designed and patented nutricosmetics active ingredient.

TULSINITY® Bio features full-spectrum Holy Basil extracted from tulsi leaves sourced in Northern India, which are Regenerative Organic (ROC) certified and Fair for Life certified. In collaboration with a local supplier, Expanscience selected the Krishna variety of the plant for its active ingredient, due to its richness in active metabolites. Sourcing tulsi through regenerative agriculture allows Expanscience and its suppliers to contribute to enhancing biodiversity, protecting soil health and sequestering carbon.

The benefits of tulsi, recognised in Ayurvedic medicine as a sacred plant, include anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immunostimulant properties, making it a plant-based, raw material of choice for daily well-being. Thanks to its adaptogenic properties, tulsi is particularly indicated to keep stress at bay.

Recommended at a daily dose of 250mg, TULSINITY® Bio is suitable for the formulation of capsules, gummies, sticks and powder for tablets. Free from gluten and animal-derived ingredients, it is also great for vegan and gluten-free consumers.

In-vitro studies have shown that TULSINITY® Bio:

  • Boosts collagen production in the dermis by 24%
  • Increases hyaluronic acid levels in the epidermis by 149%
  • Reduces cortisol levels by 11%

In parallel, a pilot clinical study confirmed that, thanks to TULSINITY® Bio’s efficacy, 80% of people reported feeling less irritable and 65% of people noticed soothed and less sensitive skin.

Organic is good, regenerative is better

Demonstrating its solid commitment to the organic and regenerative cause with TULSINITY® Bio, Expanscience is embracing and promoting agricultural practices that not only help deliver excellent-quality ingredients but are also beneficial to nature itself. As a Certified B Corporation, Expanscience has recently launched impACT, its ambitious and exciting CSR policy that aims to help it become a company with a positive & regenerative impact.

But what are the differences between “organic” and “regenerative”, exactly?

When talking about “organic” ingredients, professionals in the beauty and cosmetics industry will hail their purity, free from pesticides, chemicals and other GMOs. When organic meets regenerative, though, these unique qualities and benefits are boosted even further.

Regenerative organic ingredients are sourced through practices that aim to regenerate soil health while enhancing the entire farm ecosystem. These practices include things like crop rotation, cover cropping, composting, low- or no-till, and, of course, the complete absence of chemical pesticides and/or fertilisers.

As the Regenerative Organic Alliance states, “With regenerative organic agriculture, we can rehabilitate soil, respect animal welfare, and improve the lives of farmers. We can sequester carbon, build healthier communities, and reap more nutritious and abundant yields.”

From skin to mind, nutricosmetics is the future.

There’s no doubt about it: nutricosmetics is here to stay. Using powerful, naturally derived ingredients to craft products that benefit both the mind and the body is proving to be the new frontier in beauty trends and innovations.

Expanscience is one of the companies leading this revolution, and we are looking forward to following its journey in nutricosmetics.
