From Element's partnership with Detrapel for new aerosol technology to complete PP airless packaging by CTKclip and innovative formulas at Kolmar, MakeUp in New York was buzzing this September.

For its 13th edition, MakeUp in New York 2024 expected over 4500 visitors for the 150 exhibitors who showcased the latest skincare and makeup innovations in formulation, full-service, packaging, and ingredients. The conference program tackled key themes such as the rise of ingestible, biotech-driven beauty innovations, sustainable packaging solutions, and influencers' beauty.

Beauty innovations

Detrapel is releasing its technology within the beauty industry with an exclusive partnership with Element Beauty Group, the Florida-based full-service supplier. This new technology offers an eco-friendly aerosol solution. Instead of using gas in an aluminium can, this innovation can be hosted in recycled PET, and air-pressurized dispensers and spray bottles can be used. This allows for a 35% reduction of the carbon impact of the packaging. " Powered by clean air, the bottle dispenses beauty products without harmful chemicals that pollute the planet and can be made of recycled PET" explains Detrapel, experts in the packaging of Airopack, the world’s first air-pressurized dispenser and spray system.

CTKclip has released the DERMA collection, a full PP packaging, including an airless serum bottle. Even the pump is in full PP with no PE inner part.

Kolmar has developed different formulas with SPF factors, including makeup powders for blush applications with added mineral sunscreen for effective protection while using makeup. This further emphasizes the trend towards the sunification of skincare and makeup in the West.

Faber-Castell Cosmetics releases “Intuition” a new concept underlining its legacy in wooden cosmetics pencils.

Starting back in 1761, Faber-Castell has a long history of producing wooden pencils. It is in their roots, so to say. The "Intuition" concept epitomizes Faber-Castell Cosmetic’s approach of blending instinctive design with versatile functionality. It represents the essence of trusting one’s inner voice and gut feeling in creating solutions that resonate with authenticity and innovation. The collection features various products, from chubby “super jumbo” pencils, including a perfume stick and a creamy blush stick, to a glossy highlighter in a long jumbo format with 120 mm.

Additionally, the line offers three duo jumbo pencils designed as natural concealers, lightweight lipsticks, and lightweight lipliners. Additionally, a semi-permanent lipliner is crafted in a slim triangular shape, as well as further slim cosmetics pencils, including a duo eyeliner, an intense eyeliner and kajal in a long 150 mm format, an ultra-precise eyebrow micro pencil, and a soft brow pencil completed with a spoolie applicator. All textures are manufactured without microplastic particles, adhering to vegan and clean beauty standards.

  • Essentia Beauty for its innovative, luxurious and refillable make-up palette

A range of mono-material and refillable palettes is designed with a very user-friendly sliding system and a double refill capacity with two interior compartments. One is dedicated to frequently used colors, and the other to seasonal/trend shades. The removable lid allows for renewing desirability by changing the decoration at will thanks to a new 3D Metamorphosis printing technology of fabric coatings.

Full-Service

  • Weckerle Cosmetics, with its wooden palette

A wooden palette that fills directly, eliminating the need for cups. Multifunctional, it includes a variety of textures for complete make-up: marble blush, watercolour eyeliners, highlighters and eyeshadows. Formulas are talc-free, vegan and cruelty-free.

Formulation

  • Toa Inc. with its touch-up powder cream

An innovative cream-powder texture with a high concentration of skincare ingredients. Its hybrid natural formula provides a pleasant sensation of freshness and long-lasting hydration like a cream. It includes 10% distilled water from apple juice production.
