Airless and luxe: Introducing XTAG by Lumson
Can luxury be sustainable and…airless? Lumson, Italian leader in premium cosmetics packaging solutions, is showing that this is definitely possible. At the widely anticipated LuxePack Monaco event, the company has introduced XTAG.
This is the first-ever glass bottle – available in 15ml and 30ml – featuring an airless refill system with pouch technology. The company has dubbed this product a symbol of “positive luxury”, as it represents a new approach to consumption – and one that respects the planet, people, and production processes.
Sophistication, safety, sustainability
These are the three main characteristics of XTAG. This premium solution combines the well-known benefits of airless glass design solutions with sleek, contemporary aesthetics and a sustainable approach. In addition, its pouch technology is specifically designed to allow for the maximum protection of the formula from air and other external agents.
All in all, XTAG is – as Lumson itself states – “a forward-looking packaging solution that captivates and seduces at first glance”.
Meticulous attention to detail
During XTAG’s design, production, and customisation processes, attention to detail is of the utmost importance. The glass bottle is crafted through pressé technology, which gives it a premium look and feel, as well as ensuring a consistent shape for spotless results.
Customisation is also possible, as Lumson offers extensive opportunities to personalise the entire product in-house. Everything can be tailor-made according to the client’s specifications – from the inner and outer glass all the way to refill, pump, and cap.
What’s even better is that all this can be done without affecting the sustainability of the product. Lumson has, in fact, calculated that the XTAG airless refill system with pouch reduces CO2 emissions by 38%*.
Refills and sustainability: A match made in heaven
Refillable solutions have long been a focal point at Lumson. As Matteo Moretti, the company’s President, states, XTAG is much more than a future-ready solution: it also puts two crucial elements in the spotlight – reuse and recovery.
He says, “Our aim wasn’t just to create something new, but to do so with sustainability in mind. For example, using 1 million units of XTAG could reduce CO2 emissions by 116,700 kg, equivalent to 536,305 km driven by car—or, to put it another way, more than 10 trips around the world**!”
In a nutshell, Lumson truly believes that refillable packaging in the cosmetics industry is the future, and the available data from Circana backs this up. For example, at the beginning of this year, it was reported that the sales of refillable packaging solutions went up by 62% – refills alone, in particular, increased by 72%.
This is exceptionally meaningful data, especially if we consider that the cosmetics industry accounts for up to 1.5% of total greenhouse gas emissions around the world, with product usage, transportation, and packaging being the main culprits.
Greener innovations for a greener planet
As cosmetics suppliers, brands, and consumers become increasingly more aware of the urgent necessity to turn to sustainable practices in order to protect the future of our planet, Lumson continues to work on innovative solutions that succeed at maintaining that difficult and fine balance between luxury, technicality, and sustainability.
The company keeps leading the way with greener innovations rooted in the 3Rs: reduce, reuse, and recover, and XTAG is yet another successful launch that expands Lumson’s sustainable portfolio.
